Died peacefully at Providence Heights, McCandless Township on Monday, January 30, 2017 at the age of 87. Sister Lorraine was born in Glenshaw, PA on July 11, 1929 and was a member of St. Mary's Parish in Glenshaw, PA. She was baptized with the name of Virginia. She entered the Sisters of Divine Providence on December 26, 1949. Sister Lorraine is known for her winning smile and gracious and pleasing personality. Sister taught in various schools in Pennsylvania and Michigan. She also was the Associate Director of the CSM. In 1994 she returned to Providence Heights and became the Insurance Coordinator as well as assisted in Accounts Payable. Sister Lorraine received her Bachelor and Master Degrees in Education at Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, PA. Sister Lorraine is preceded in death by her parents John J. and Mary C. (Reiner) Giel; her siblings: Ralph Giel, Marie (Carl) Hunkele, John Giel, Catherine (Elmer) Hunkele, Edward (Cecil) Giel, Loretta (Jerry) Walter, Raymond (Gertrude) Giel, Norman (Agnes) Giel. Sister is survived by her brother Leonard R. (Camilla) Giel and many nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at Providence Heights 9000 Babcock Blvd., Allison Park, PA 15101 on Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with a Wake Service at 7 p.m. Visitation on Friday, from Noon-3:00 pm with Mass of Christian Burial at 3:30 p.m. in Divine Providence Chapel. Sr. Lorraine was one of the sweetest, kindest Sisters I ever knew. May she rest in peace and reap the reward of a life well lived. My sympathy to her family and the community.
